WILDGUARDER WG9801 Night Vision Binoculars Review: Are They Worth It for UK Anglers?
Updated: Oct 15
By Chris | Field tested by Life Gear Lab
How this was tested: I've been putting the WILDGUARDER WG9801 night vision binoculars UK through its paces on night fishing sessions at the bank. Here's what I found.
Night fishing is different. You're sat on the bank in total darkness, watching your indicators and listening to the water. Anything moving in the margins, another angler, a fox, something big rolling, you hear but can't see. If you've ever wanted eyes after dark, proper ones, that's exactly what night vision binoculars for fishing UK are for.
The WILDGUARDER WG9801 night vision binoculars UK is built for this. I've scrutinised it based on its specs and put its claims to the test on the bank. Here's what I think.

What Is the WILDGUARDER WG9801?
The WG9801 is WILDGUARDER's flagship 4K night vision binocular. It's designed for outdoor use — carp fishing night sessions, wildlife watching, camping, and van life — and it's the kind of kit that used to cost a fortune. Not anymore.
WILDGUARDER is a specialist night vision brand with an established range of outdoor optics. The WG9801 is their go-to recommendation for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts who want serious after-dark capability without spending thousands.

What It's Like to Use
The 850nm IR illuminator is the real heart of this thing. Three adjustable levels mean you can dial it down in close margins or push it out when you want to scan the far bank. At up to 300m in normal conditions (and further in ideal ones), you're covering serious ground.
The f/1.4 aperture is a meaningful spec here. Fast glass means more light hits the sensor even in total darkness. That's not marketing fluff — it's physics. Combined with the IR illuminator, you get a genuinely clear image where other cheaper units give you grainy soup.
The 5,000mAh battery is a proper overnight unit. You're not going to get to 3am and find a dead screen.
4K video and 48MP photos mean what you capture is actually usable. If you want to document a fish rolling in the margins, a deer in the field behind the swim, or just prove to your mate that something massive moved out there at midnight — this does it.
Who Is This For?
Carp anglers on overnight sessions are the obvious fit. You've got hours in the dark. You hear things. You want to see them. The WG9801 is exactly that tool.
Wildlife watchers will love it too. Badgers, foxes, deer, owls — after-dark wildlife in the UK is brilliant. This lets you actually watch it rather than guess at shapes.
Campers and van lifers also get a security angle as well. Knowing what's moving around your pitch or van overnight is reassuring. This is practical kit, not just a gadget.
Is It Worth the Money?
Traditional night vision gear starts at hundreds and runs into thousands for quality kit. The WG9801 brings 4K digital night vision into a genuinely accessible price bracket. When everything costs more these days, gear that delivers a lot for its price point matters.
It pays for itself the first time you spot something you'd have otherwise missed. For anglers making regular overnight trips, that's a genuine return.
Verdict
The WILDGUARDER WG9801 is a serious bit of kit. 4K video, 48MP stills, a fast lens, a long-running battery, and an adjustable IR illuminator that reaches out to 1km. For carp anglers, wildlife watchers, campers and van lifers who want real after-dark visibility, this is the one to get.
Night vision used to cost a fortune. The WG9801 brings proper 4K after-dark capability to a price that makes sense — and with WILDGUARDER's 2-year warranty and 90-day returns, there's no risk to trying it. Stock moves quickly on kits like this.
